Victims do exist. Real trauma happens. Trauma stays in the body. The environment more than influences imagination. Blaming victims of abuse for not stopping their abuse soon enough is rude and lacking in emotional intelligence. The brain has no space for creativity in a constant fight or flight, cortisol infused state.
Healthy creativity would mean an open imagination leaning towards things that bring love and expansion into one’s life. But when the environment is volatile and the people hung out with are also low in healthy imagination, it can be hard to think expansively. Some people don’t want to share what’s going on with them. A person might get faulty information that leads them into dead ends. Putting things that way shows why people stay stuck in a victim mentality.
As a Highlight, get away from the abuse as soon and as far as possible. That’s not an understatement. It can be hard to do but look up resources that can help provide guidance. Don’t stay quiet about it. Let whoever is safe know what is going on.
What is a victim mentality and what does it lead to? A victim mentality is not taking responsibility where it can be taken. Tony Robbins uses these questions “What are things I can control?”, “What are things I can influence?” and “What are things I cannot control or influence?”. These questions can help someone see what is really important. It helps bring about a solution-based focus. But when people don’t think along those lines it’s easy to get stuck on the problem for far too long.
Remember emotions coming from those problems can help jump start us into action. With the right guidance solutions are possible. The reasons people take or do not take all the responsibility they can are more visible. Responsibility is more far reaching then most of us know.
A victim mentality puts people in a skewed judgement when viewing the problems of this world. It causes separation and a focus on things that do not matter. Instead of blaming the state of morality and how much people lean towards right action versus wrong action, they blame race, sex, riches, background, and anything else that can be resented.
Resentments are carried by being hurt and not getting closure. These modes of separation are constantly bombarded on people via the media and environment. It is a distraction keeping humanity from viewing where we have not taken responsibility.
Another problem arising from a victim mentality is holding on to the past and thinking in terms of “An eye for an eye.” And there is a place for justice against those who harm others. The idea of “They did this to me.” can be valid. But it only works for so long. Emotions must be felt. But how does repeating the thought “They did this to me.” and never healing help?
One of the hardest things to do is let go. Getting ready to let go has its own timeline and process for everyone. Letting go or forgiveness is powerful. It doesn’t mean one becomes a doormat and needs to quietly suffer.
A change in consciousness comes as a result. Space is made for beneficial beliefs and an expansive imagination. There are good avenues to help let go. One way is to write down a person’s name and write beside it “I forgive you” however many times you can. Saying it in one’s head is helpful too. Find what healing modality works for you. But a practice must be taken up. It prepares and strengthens people.
“An eye for an eye” ties into sayings like “The end justifies the means.”. These sayings tie into a dog-eat-dog world. In other words, it is a survival of the fittest mentality. And I could go into a tangent of there being such a thing as healthy competition. We can talk about how hard times create strong men and women. But when I speak of “survival of the fittest” I think of Social Darwinism. The strong rule over the weak.
There are many accounts of people in authority/ power misusing their positions to bring harm to others. The controllers i.e., the ruling classes way of thinking trickles down onto society. And society harms itself by listening to authority without question. It is like many have accepted the ruling classes as the fittest to rule over humanity. A survival of the fittest attitude means a contraction of the imagination. It is a contraction of the heart.
